Joomla Multi-Language Setup

17 Jun

So I’m adding another language to the website I’ve been working on since last year.

Last time I did it, it was more than a year ago, so I had forgotten the correct procedure. Since I haven’t received the complete set of translation, I only created half of the articles and half of the menu items. As I installed the languages and published it, I still don’t see the flag on homepage. After some research, I realized the reason why it’s not showing on Home page is because I did not assign a default homepage to the language menu.

The standard procedure:

1. Install the target language, enable it in the content language column.

2. Note here that if you don’t have all the content ready yet, please don’t publish the language in content column yet. Otherwise, publish.

3. Create a default home page for the target language, assign it to the home page and create menu item for homepage.

4. Remember the CAM rule for creating contents: Category-Article-Menu

5. Assign modules to menu items.

6. Publish the content language if you haven’t published yet.
